facts about vincent,
by bellaluna

So, what can I tell you about Vincent Gallo? Not much, actually. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. approximately 39 years ago. He is the middle of three children, his parents were hairdressers, his father was also a deputy sheriff. He left home at an early age and moved to NYC, where he became involved in the "downtown new wave" scene. He played in a band with artist Jean Michel Basquiat, (look for his brief cameo in the film Basquiat), made Super 8 films, and had gallery showings of his own artwork. He won the 1984 Berlin Film Festival Best Music Award for the score of his first film, The Way It Is. He collects Hi-Fi equipment. He is an adventurous dresser. He has a reputation for being honest to the point of abrasiveness. He is a true Renaissance man, and he is brilliant.
Try as I might, I simply have not been able to sum up what I know of Vincent in any simple, standard way. This is not a simple, standard man. He's done more in one lifetime than most people could do in three. And most of the info I have is random references and quotes...I have no idea how much is true or in what time frame or sequence any of it took place. So I've decided this "Bio" page will simply be a compilation of all the random things I find most intriguing about Vincent. My suggestion is to read all the interviews and quotes in the In Print section to really get a feel for who this guy is.
