HOL Nina   :

Vincent Gallo, star of "Palookaville" and "The Funeral," will join Hollywood Online soon! Stay tuned for a live chat with this versatile and talented actor.

HOL Nina   :

Gallo holds the unique honor of appearing in two movies that are both out in theaters. "Palookaville" and "The Funeral," which opens today.

HOL Nina   :

Welcome to Hollywood Online, Vincent Gallo!

Vinc Gallo :

Hello.  Thanks to all you inbreds for visiting on your computers when you should be out mingling trying to meet girls in person.

HOL Nina   :

We're glad to have you - mingling has always been overrated, anyway..

HOL Nina   :

We have plenty of questions already.

Vinc Gallo :

I love this already. What would you like to ask?

HOL Nina   :

Z Heckler heckles us with this one..

Question   :

HEY VINCE! WHAT IS YOUR BEST WORK, BECAUSE I LIKE THEM ALL?

Vinc Gallo :

People are so much better in pen than in person. This is even better than faxing my friends.

Vinc Gallo :

My best work would have been "Arizona Dream," which was directed by Emir Costa Rica if the six-hour version of the movie was released instead of the Warner Bros abortion.

HOL Nina   :

DKugel seems to know you well..

Question   :

Vince, this is Bernie and his wife Tink, what movies do you have upcoming?.

Vinc Gallo :

There's a documentary being released on my famous band from Buffalo called the Good titled "Pork." It's on my years playing bass.

HOL Nina   :

Sounds a little unkosher :)

Vinc Gallo :

We'll be doing a reunion for the right price.

Vinc Gallo :

Can I take this moment to take a plea?

HOL Nina   :

Take a plea or cop a plea??

Vinc Gallo :

I'm too lazy and cheap to buy a computer and go online, but I always dreamed of the day because there was a girl that I was in love with that I'd like to get reacquainted with. SO I'm going to leave this  fax number, and if any girl knows where she's at, please let me know. It's (xxx)-xxx-xxxx. *

Vinc Gallo :

Here's a  quick list of the girls.

Vinc Gallo :

Angela Morasque from Pittson, Pennsylvania. Otta Marie Monaco that I met at Fileroma.

Vinc Gallo :

And the rest of the girls are from Buffalo, New York.

Vinc Gallo :

Wendy Balsam, Debbie Dalucia, Lynn Thomas, Lorie Zyan, Sue Dunn, Kelly Lynch, Jackie Trifillo, Anne Di Martel, and my beloved Laurie Indridson.

HOL Nina   :

Very romantic, although that seems to be quite a list. ;)

HOL Nina   :

They are all over 18, right? Otherwise I think we might be participating in a minor felony.

Vinc Gallo :

That is so fantastic. I'll cry if I find one of you.

HOL Nina   :

Do you keep notches on your bedpost, or do I not want to know?

Vinc Gallo :

Maybe I can start living in the present again now. I'm very very much not trying to conquer anybody but what I'd really like to do is, well the truth is, I'm very private and I just bought a new bed so I better wait until I'm in a real relationship.

Vinc Gallo :

My new nest is sacred. But if anyone would like to meet me in a hotel . . .

HOL Nina   :

Back to your first love, film, here's a question from JAVABEAM...

Question   :

Is there an exact release date for "The Funeral" yet?

Vinc Gallo :

I think it opens today in L.A. and it's already open in N.Y. The rest of the country, it should be open any day now. "Palookaville" might be the better film I'm in right now.

HOL Nina   :

Any opening day jitters?

Vinc Gallo :

No, because you make films so much time before they actually get released that you become somewhat detached from the project. The only thing you feel is if there's some extreme reaction to it, but you don't really anticipate it.

Vinc Gallo :

I'm much more traumatized before the first day of shooting. That's the big pain for me. It such a relief for me when it's over. Then there's no pain. I become happy like when you complete a root canal.

Vinc Gallo :

After, there's only the disappointment of the final edit.

HOL Nina   :

KINGODD is curious about directors...

Question   :

Besides yourself, who is the best director you've ever worked with?

Vinc Gallo :

The answer to that might sound unusual, but the best director is Richard Avedon, whom I made some Calvin Klein commercials with. One of the reasons... well, there's two reasons, when you do a performance, when you're doing your best work, only one tenth of the people can tell. So in general, most of the people around you barely notice. Avedon could really tell, and he'd get excited about your stuff.

Vinc Gallo :

Since he knew about performances, he was great. And he was also confident about finding ways to help me reach the top level.

HOL Nina   :

JohnathanK has a blast from the past..

Question   :

How was it working with Eric Mitchell and the cast of "The Way It Is," which also included a young Steve Buscemi?

Vinc Gallo :

Well, that was our first movie.  To tell you the truth, it was probably the most fun. I had absolutely no insecurities about making that film. I was so thrilled and I had no fear about being bad.  It happened quickly, it ended quickly, and it was fantastic.

Vinc Gallo :

Since I had such a miserable childhood and an unpleasant high school memory, it was probably like my own high school experience.  I have a very sentimental feeling about it. I reminisce about the days when we borrowed money from passersby for money for the pizza scene. There were slim budgets on that film. We had to be careful how many bites of pizza everyone got.

HOL Nina   :

A question about your recent film..

Question   :

The dialogue was hilarious in "Palookaville!" Did you improvise at all?

Vinc Gallo :

Well, to be quite honest, I probably improvise the most. But the screenplay was a very good one. It might have appeared that I was improvising more than I actually was.

Vinc Gallo :

I've been at a lot of press conferences for movies, but this is one of the best ones that I've done, and much of the credit has to go to Mr. Epstein, the screenwriter. I'm very proud of the film.

HOL Nina   :

What drew you to Palookaville in the first place?

Vinc Gallo :

It was the first time I had been offered a part in a film without any meeting, audition, etc. Alan Taylor called and asked me to be the lead and said that he wouldn't make the movie without me so I accepted the role without asking him what the film was about, and also, the idea that I would kiss a girl in a movie, or have a girlfriend, it was a dream movie for me.

Vinc Gallo :

People usually scream "he's perfect for the killer." The idea that I'd have a girlfriend was very exciting.

HOL Nina   :

A question about your (acting) technique...

Question   :

What method of acting do you use?

Vinc Gallo :

I never wanted to be an actor. I never want to be an actor. I want to be a movie star. The whole idea of having to act is too gruesome. It's too ambitious for me.

Vinc Gallo :

What technique did John Wayne use?  My technique is, pass gas and show up.

HOL Nina   :

An audience member seeks your wisdom...

Question   :

What is your advice for struggling actors?

Vinc Gallo :

Well, if you want to be an actor, move to a major city, either in L.A. or N.Y. and every day do as many things as you possibly can to reach that goal. But make sure that goal is set so high, that if you reach one-tenth of the goal, you've gone a long ways. Fantasize and believe that you could star in a 100 Oscar-winning movies, and just work for that every day.

Vinc Gallo :

Let's face it, most people want to be actors because they want unconditional love and power and money and to be able to act out a character fantasy that involves themselves.  So if one is truly honest about themselves in that way, then you're on the right path.  If not, the process becomes convoluted.  You have to go out grab it, and demand  it. That's my advice.

Question   :

What was it like working on "Arizona Dream" with Faye Dunaway and Jerry Lewis?

Vinc Gallo :

Jerry Lewis was an evil bastard and I hated him.

Vinc Gallo :

Faye Dunaway was an extremely complicated, complex individual who I found fascinated and talented. It was quite unusual to work with her, but it was quite fascinating. Of course everyone knows she's somewhat of a legend. But on a personal level, she's a great actress and very professional. I'm very proud to have worked with Faye.

Vinc Gallo :

But Jerry was unprepared and difficult, and he made it so for all of us. In the end, when we had to throw out the 50 scenes he destroyed, he looked decent. But that doesn't matter because the film could have been better.

HOL Nina   :

Great balls of fire! :)

Vinc Gallo :

The movie itself is the star. That's what counts. Besides, I loved Dean Martin, so there was already an assumed risk. Poor Dean.

HOL Nina   :

Woookieee has a musical question...

Question   :

I want to hear about vincent's band! :)

HOL Nina   :

You can't say no to a Wookieee.

Vinc Gallo :

Well, my new band is called Bunny. And I'm currently recording an album on the Sony work label. Eddie Author, a progressive rock producer from the 70s, is working with me. I'll be working with Adam Horowitz and Tim Wright from D.N.A. and a couple of other people.  But basically I'm the musical director of the project. I'll be recording in December and it'll be out in March.

Vinc Gallo :

It'll be my fourth album, first on a major label. And I like working on the major label just fine. Then one doesn't have to immediately labeled "marginal." Now I can actually appear legitimate.

HOL Nina   :

A question about your imbibing habits...

Question   :

Do you drink a lot of caffeine? You were very energetic in "Palookaville!"

Vinc Gallo :

I don't drink any coffee or take any drugs and I don't smoke cigarettes and I don't eat sugar and I don't take any medicine at all. I eat a lot of fish, vegetables, and I stay away from starches.

Vinc Gallo :

I'm not so sure my eating behavior is responsible. I look like someone who takes drugs, so I refuse to take even aspirin in order to contradict my appearance. But I like the color brown. Oh, and I don't eat dairy. And I sure do like the color brown.  And pink.  Pink and brown. If I had to choose, pink would lose.

HOL Nina   :

Wookieee has another one..

Question   :

What was Jean Michel Basquiat like-- and did BASQUIAT resemble the truth as you know it in any way?

Vinc Gallo :

I've never seen the movie but Jean Michel was one of the most talented, charming, charismatic, clever, bright, irresponsible, self-centered, self-indulgent, lying bastards that I've ever met.

Vinc Gallo :

And a little footnote. There's some super 8 footage of a guy flying through the air. That's me at age 17 in N.Y. City. It's from a short film called "Vincent Gallo as Christ." It's my first film performance.

HOL Nina   :

An ardent fan, FUQHEAD, asks..

Question   :

Would you ever consider doing a nude scene?

Vinc Gallo :

You know, in a funny way, I think that pornography is the true underground in the cinema right now. Actors use their power to protect their persona so much that the most radical performance I could give is one in which I'm extremely nude and extremely glamorized.

HOL Nina   :

Stripped of all pretensions :)

Vinc Gallo :

If I could be involved in that way, I would be willing. Somebody asked me if I could be in a movie about the pornography industry called "Boogie Nights" and I turned it down because it was an R-rated film. I thought it would be better if it was much more radical and had an X rating. It would have been nice if some well known Hollywood could have been in it extremely nude because it would be much more  aesthetic.

Vinc Gallo :

What's the point of trivializing decadent subject matter? Yes, I would be nude in a movie. But so far no one has seen my naked a**. To do what Michael Douglas does, for no reason, that I would not do. To be titillating is pointless. I want to be nude for the uncomfortableness, the shock, the subject matter.

HOL Nina   :

Unfortunately, our time is almost up! Do you have any last words, Vincent?

Vinc Gallo :

Please somebody help me find those girls from my childhood. I would love to hear from some of them.  The other thing is, I would like to thank everyone for listening to my cakaka for so long. I would like to dedicate my appearance to the great Steve Jobs.  :)

HOL Nina   :

Thanks for joining us at Hollywood Online!

HOL Nina   :
